The authors talk about the Comfort Food Cookbooks...

We received over 300 recipes from our call to the public for comfort food recipes. Contributors also gave us their heart warming stories as to what these recipes mean to them.

We began to see that comfort foods are more than good food - they also carry loving messages, and like love, they have many facets.

They can be hot soup on a cold day, great grandmother's biscuits warm from the oven, rice pudding for someone ill, a hearty casserole for someone bereaved, a pot of stew for a new mother, or a thoughtfully chosen meal for friends. In the preparing, serving and sharing, comfort foods connect us with others in a meaningful way; they become part of the "glue" that holds us together.

Six books came to life from the recipes and stories received. Each has its own particular theme, colour and selection of recipes. Each contributor's story preceeds the recipe, and additional comments and anecdotal material appear at the foot of many of the pages.

We hope the Comfort Food Cookbooks are something more than good additions to your recipe collection - it is our wish that they become a means of remembering your connections with others.
